De Coral Gardeners zijn opgericht in Mo'orea, het zustereiland van Tahiti, in Frans-Polynesië. Als een groep eilandkinderen zagen ze het snelle sterven van het lokale koraalrif al vroeg en wilden ze actie ondernemen. Ze hebben zich ontwikkeld tot een internationaal collectief van voorstanders, wetenschappers, ingenieurs en creatievelingen dat vastbesloten is om de oceaanbescherming te revolutioneren.
Since 2017, the team has grown to over 60 members and, together with a global movement of over half a million people, is committed to saving the reefs. To date, the Coral Gardeners have been able to plant over 100,000 corals from French Polynesia to the Fiji Islands.
