GERMAN OCEAN FOUNDATION

From knowledge to action

German Ocean Foundation

The German Ocean Foundation works with partners from business, politics, research, science and society to preserve the ocean as a habitat for future generations. In order to achieve this goal, they initiate a wide range of projects.

With the media and research vessel ALDEBARAN, they conduct research expeditions on topics such as coral decline and plastics in the water. For the past 17 years, they have been motivating young scientists to do their best for our oceans with their ocean competition, and they also produce educational materials for all ages on all kinds of ocean topics.

They also develop measurement tools and methods to detect and remove plastic waste from our oceans. Together with numerous partners, they are involved in the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, for example through a permanent exhibition on the museum ship Cap San Diego in Hamburg or the Ocean Festival in Berlin.
