OUR MATERIALS

FROM TRASH TO TREASURE

Since we started producing backpacks in 2018, we have continuously expanded our product range and the materials used. Our recycled PET fabric, which is made from Ocean Impact Plastic, now has its own name: RE:PET. Discover more on this page about the main materials used in our products.

RE:PET

RE:PET is our recycled polyester fabric. It is based on PET bottles collected by GOT BAG Indonesia’s clean-up program and other local organizations that are Ocean Bound Plastic certified. The collected PET is processed by our recycling partner in Indonesia. In our endeavor to create a positive impact, we transform discarded plastic into our RE:PET fabric, which we use in most of our products. Want to know more? Check out our GOT STORY here: “What is Ocean Impact Plastic”.

We use RE:PET for the following products, among others:

Accessories: Stacked transparent water bottles, detail shot.

RE:PC®

RE:PC® is a recycled polycarbonate made from discarded water dispenser containers. These containers are usually not found in the plastic waste collected through our GOT BAG Indonesia clean-up program. Therefore, we source this material from our recycling partner in Indonesia. If you have already been to regions like Southeast Asia, you probably know that drinking water often comes in bottles or from water dispensers with reusable containers. Despite their reusability, these containers eventually reach the end of their life cycle and can be recycled. Collected within a radius of 50 km from the coast, RE:PC® is Ocean Bound Plastic certified and is not only recycled, but also a very light and robust material that is ideal for suitcase shells and even sunglasses.

We use RE:PC® for the following products, among others:

RE:NYNET®

RE:NYNET® is a fabric made of recycled nylon produced from discarded fishing nets. To this end, our recycling partner in Taiwan, Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation, collects worn-out fishing nets from local manufacturers and buys back nets that are no longer usable from fishing operations. In a technically sophisticated recycling process, the fishing nets are chemically broken down into their molecular components. These are then used to produce new yarn. Unlike PET, nylon (PA66) can only be chemically recycled for yarn production. This gives it the same quality characteristics as virgin nylon. We use RE:NYNET® for products that benefit from the light weight, soft feel and brilliant colors of the material.
