WHO IS THE GERMAN OCEAN FOUNDATION?

The German Ocean Foundation works with partners from business, politics, research, science and society to preserve the ocean habitat for the benefit of future generations. To this end, they initiate a wide range of projects.

With the media and research vessel ALDEBARAN, they undertake research expeditions on topics such as coral bleaching and plastics in waterways. For 17 years, their marine competition has been motivating young scientists to achieve excellence in the field of ocean research. They also produce educational materials on all kinds of marine topics for all age groups. In addition, they develop measuring instruments and methods to detect plastic waste and remove it from our oceans. They are involved with a large number of partners as part of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, for example through a permanent exhibition on the museum ship Cap San Diego in Hamburg or the Ocean Festival in Berlin.
