WHO IS THE GERMAN OCEAN FOUNDATION

The German Ocean Foundation works with partners from business, politics, research, science and society to preserve the ocean habitat for the benefit of future generations.
To this end, they initiate a wide range of projects.

A young woman looks through a microscope, an accessory for scientific studies.

With the media and research vessel ALDEBARAN, they undertake research expeditions on topics such as coral mortality or plastics in water bodies. Through their ocean competition, they have been motivating young scientists for 17 years to achieve top performance for our oceans and also create educational materials for all age groups on all kinds of marine topics.

Furthermore, they develop measuring devices and processes to detect plastic waste and banish it from our oceans. They are involved with a large number of partners within the framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, for example through a permanent exhibition on the museum ship Cap San Diego in Hamburg or the Ocean Festival in Berlin.
