Learn more about us & our missionWe plant the seedlings at the coast in Gojoyo, one of our clean-up villages in Java, Indonesia.
All local residents can sign up for the planting campaign. In case of too many registrations, we will give preference to those volunteers who do not have a steady income and are therefore economically worse off. Volunteer students from the Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIB) in Semarang will also participate. They are studying marine and fisheries and are therefore particularly interested in the conservation of the mangroves.
During the whole GOT BAG Ocean Week you can support the GOT BAG Community Forest with a self-selected amount of mangrove seedlings. At the end of GOT BAG Ocean Week, we will order the seedlings, bring them to Gojoyo and prepare them for planting. The planting campaign is then expected to start in July 2022 - you can follow the campaign on our Instagram channel.
Mangroves are an enormously important part of the marine ecosystem: their roots provide shelter for the majority of marine life and thus help to preserve biodiversity. They also protect the coast from erosion and serve as a barrier against flooding. At the same time, they filter pollutants from the water. The root system also acts as a barrier to plastic waste and keeps it from entering the open sea.
We want to inspire as many people as possible for Ocean Week and our mangrove project. But we also understand that not everyone can easily afford a GOT BAG or can afford to donate. Therefore, we offer the possibility to choose the discount at your own discretion and thus decide for yourself how much is saved and how many mangroves are planted for your purchase.
Unfortunately, we cannot set up a pure mangrove donation through our online store. If you have a great desire to support the GOT BAG Community Forest - without buying a product - feel free to write an email to hello@got-bag.com.
